Gardner grew up in Malvern, Pennsylvania a small town thirty miles west of Philadelphia. As a kid Gardner was immediately glued to the sport of baseball and was fortunate enough to travel all across the country to play as early as the age of ten. In high school he attended Malvern Preparatory School and helped lead the team as a pitcher to two high school state championships and three straight league titles. He then attended and played his college ball at Eckerd College in the perennial powerhouse Sunshine State Conference. He started all four years as a relief pitcher and finished his career ranking 3rd all-time in career appearances. After college Gardner found Crossfit through a close friend and was immediately
hooked. Relatively soon thereafter he pursued and received his L1 Training Certificate and began his journey as a coach in the BPF community.
